Kingfisher; Alcedinidae

One of Britain's most recogniseable bird but also one of the most difficult to spot. The unmistakable bright blue and orange of the Kingfisher is often seen as a blur as it flies rapidly past. Blink and you will definitely miss it!
Kingfishers hunt close to the water's edge and are sometimes spotted sitting on perches waiting to dive in to the water to catch small fish. They live in burrow like nests near lakes and other water ways.
Classified as Amber in the British conservation chart. They are protected under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside act.
Do you know that Kingfishers close their eyes when they dive under the water.
