Badger

European Badger; Meles Meles

The badger is the UK's largest land predator, famous for it's black and white stripes. They live underground in large family groups called setts. Cubs are born in January/February and spend their first few months underground before emerging to the surface in Spring.

Do you know badgers are the only natural predator of the hedgehog? They use their thick skin and large claws to combat the spikes.  It is earthworms that make up 80% of their diet though, they can eat hundreds a night!
